Kathy Grieder

Chair

Kathy Grieder joined the Board of Friends of Our Island Home in 2018.  Her Mom became a resident that year.  She is also a member of the Family Council of Our Island Home.

Kathy has been coming to Nantucket since an infant, visiting her grandmother and grandfather who owned Aime’s Bakery back in 1950-1970.  She met and married her husband Bill Grieder, who is a native Nantucketer with a history of many generations of Nantucket and Tuckernuck ancestors.  Bill’s grandmother, Elsie Grieder, was a resident of OIH back in the late 1980’s.

Kathy has been active in supporting the senior community of Nantucket.  She also serves on the Board of Nantucket Center for Elder Affairs. The Friends group of the Saltmarsh Senior Center. When her Mom arrived as a resident, Kathy found Our Island Home, a vibrant community of visitors, volunteers and entertainers actively involved in making OIH a true home for the elderly and disabled.  She immediately wanted to be part of helping to enrich the lives of the residents and support the staff.  When the Covid pandemic hit and OIH had to shut down to keep the residents safe, she saw first-hand how the residents and other families had to endure the heartache and loneliness that went on for over a year. That is how she came to be involved in The Friends of Our Island Home
